Staffin’s Shinty Pioneer & Skye’s Other Leading Lights of the Game

As part of Skye Camanachd’s celebration of 125 years, the Skye Ecomuseum will host a special event at the Staffin Community Hall on Tuesday 20th of February. Two well known figures will give accounts of some important characters connected to Skye from the world of shinty.

We will be welcoming Dr Hugh Dan MacLennan to begin proceedings with a talk on John ‘Kaid’ MacLean, the great Gaelic bard and shinty raconteur. Norman MacDonald will then give a summary of the work of the seven Skye men who became Chief and President of the Camanachd Association from 1951 to 2014. Hugh will then take to the stage again to tell us more about Peter MacLeod, Garafad, the Staffin schoolboy who became a national sporting figure in the 1920s.

We would like to thank Skye and Lochalsh Archive Centre for their help with this event. There will be no charge to attend and refreshments will be available on the night.

Any questions should be directed to Angus Murray, Skye Ecomuseum Programme Manager
