Staffin candle company for sale but still burning bright

A HUGELY popular Staffin candle-making business has been put up for sale.
But the owners have stressed it is business as usual as they gear up for the busy festive period.
Skyelight Candles, which is run by Nick Wakeham and Kevin Topping, has been trading for 14 years.
It started off from humble beginnings in a small garage next to their home at the Old Mission House, Garafad, but Skyelight’s reputation quickly grew, largely through word of mouth. The company’s products are now made from a purpose-built workshop and thousands of candles are sold all over the world, either to customers dropping in to the Staffin workshop or buying online. Skyelight candles can also be purchased in outlets throughout the island. Nick said they had made the decision to leave the community with a very heavy heart.Family reasons and the offer of a “once-in-lifetime” job in Glasgow have prompted the decision. The estate agent is now in the process of valuing the business and their home.
Nick said the business would continue to trade as normal in the meantime.
“I am hoping that whoever wants to buy the house will also find the prospect of having a well-established going-concern an enticement and am offering any prospective buyer the chance to shadow me for a week and learn how all the candles are made so that a seamless hand-over could take place,” he said.
