WORK on installing a new safety feature on the road leading to the new Lealt platform car park will be carried out next week.
Staffin Community Trust (SCT) closed the access road to the new car park in Lealt in February after freezing temperatures and icy surfaces prompted safety concerns.
The height barrier was lowered to to stop vehicles attempting to drive up the track, skid on the frozen surface, and potentially go through the stock fence.
SCT has subsequently decided to add an additional safety measure at the location and an Armco crash barrier will be erected on the left-hand side of the road in the picture, below. Until then the upper car park will remain temporarily closed. SCT apologises for any inconvenience.
Other improvements will be made to the site in the coming weeks including the installation of picnic benches, the tidy up of muddy patches near the path route, grass seeding and installation of new interpretation signage.
