New pathworks underway in Staffin
WORK on two new path projects is now underway in Staffin, as the latest phase in the Skye Ecomuseum heritage development.
Following a competitive tendering process, Staffin Community Trust (SCT) has awarded contracts in Flodigarry and Grealin to Highlands and islands’ firms. Arran Footpaths Ltd, which recently completed a major contract at Glen Sligachan, for the John Muir Trust, this week started the upgrade of the popular Flodigary to Quiraing footpath, by Loch Langaig.

The board of directors and staff would like to thank everyone in the community and elsewhere who have supported – directly or indirectly – SCT’s projects. Staffin’s housing, health & business development makes encouraging progress
CONSTRUCTION work on Staffin’s long-awaited housing, health and business development could commence in the summer of 2019.
A total of seven affordable houses, a new medical surgery and business space will be built on Stenscholl common grazings, close to the primary school.
Staffin Community Trust (SCT) is hopeful that the legal process currently underway to purchase the site and remove it from crofting tenure will be completed and the land in its ownership early in the new year.

A NEW director has joined Staffin Community Trust (SCT)  to help progress its projects, ahead of an important year ahead.
Calum MacDonald, who was raised in Stenscholl, will now serve on the development trust’s board.

2018 Remembrance Sunday services in Staffin
SERVICES at Staffin’s two war memorials will take place this weekend to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice, 100 years after the First World War ended.
Two services will be held in the district. The first one starts at the Culnacnoc War Memorial at 2.30pm where wreaths will be laid and a two-minute silence observed. The second service will take place at 3pm at the Staffin War Memorial. Everybody is welcome.

Donation boxes installed at new Skye viewing platform
TWO new donation boxes have been placed at the new Staffin viewing platform to help meet the development’s running costs. 
Staffin Community Trust opened the platform, new footpaths and a car park at Lealt gorge in August, as part of its Skye Ecomuseum development. Feedback to the year-round attraction has been overwhelmingly supportive and SCT is now working to install new interpretation signage illustrating the industrial story of Lealt, and the other crofting townships in Staffin, across all its ecomuseum sites. ...

Community invited to Skye Ecomuseum interpretation consultation events
THE STAFFIN community and visitors are warmly invited to offer their views on the proposals for upgraded signage for the Skye Ecomuseum over the next two days.
Design firm, Lateral North, will be on hand with Staffin Community Trust to show the plans for the ecomuseum.

Community opening event for new Lealt viewing platform
A NEW viewing platform and parking area at Lealt gorge in Staffin will be officially opened tomorrow (Thursday) in a community event.
The community and wider public are warmly invited to the opening at 11.30am on October 4th.
Staffin Community Trust (SCT)’s contractors completed the development earlier this year, as part of the newly re-branded Skye Ecomuseum project, which will now also carry the name, Druim nan Linntean.

A MUCH-needed affordable housing, health and business development in Staffin has taken a major step forward after securing a significant government grant.

A CALL has been issued seeking a suitable site in Staffin to build a new seafood processing building, which would create a significant number of jobs in the district.
A base is needed in which to pack and label seafood, such as organic salmon, for sale. It comes after aquaculture company Organic Sea Harvest (OSH), secured planning permission from Highland Council for two new fish farms at Tote and Culnacnoc in April.
