WORK is progressing well on the new Skye Ecomuseum viewing platform at Lealt and it is hoped the new attraction will be opened later this month.
The community-led development is being delivered by two contractors, MacDonald Contracting Ltd and Staffin Groundworks.
Staffin Community Trust (SCT) hopes the year-round public attraction will showcase the Trotternish landscape and looks forward to telling the story of Lealt and the rest of the district through new 
interpretation signage.
The new platform will offer excellent views of the gorge, the Trotternish Ridge and out to the sea and Wester Ross. The platform will be accessible by wheelchair users. The structure is made of galvanised steel and timber. The decking is larch while all the handrail posts are oak hardwood. It is hoped the materials used will ensure its longevity. A new parking area for cars and motorcycles, road and footpath are also under construction.
But the area remains a live construction site with heavy plant machinery, materials and contractors and is closed to the public. SCT will ensure the public will be informed about the platform’s opening. A formal opening event is planned for later in the year.
