CONSTRUCTION work on a new affordable home in Flodigarry is progressing well and is expected to be completed in April.
And the owner, the Highlands Small Communities Housing Trust (HSCT), is now advertising the three-bedroom house’s availability for “Rent to Buy”. This could offer first time buyers the opportunity to rent for five years before purchasing the house outright at a fixed price of £140,000. That is a 20 per cent discount from the open market price and people with local connections who make enquires are prioritised.
There is also £7,500 loyalty cash back for a deposit when you buy the home. The HSCHT has developed the site at Dun Flodigarry, just off the A855 and north of the youth hostel.
HSCHT was set up to help rural communities secure long-term solutions to their local housing needs and receives funding from a variety of sources, including the Scottish Government.
HSCHT works with communities in the region to help them meet their needs for additional affordable housing. Contact HSCHT on 01463 233 549, further details can be found at their website http://www.hscht.co.uk/current-opportunities.html
SCT is not involved in the Flodigarry project but is fully supportive of the need for affordable housing in the community so that local people, particularly families, can be retained or attracted to the community. SCT is working on a planning application to build six new homes near Staffin Primary School, in partnership with HSCHT and the Lochalsh and Skye Housing Association.
