AS 2014 draws to a close, Staffin has again come out on top of the charts as the top rated visitor destination in Skye.
Four hugely popular and internationally renowned Staffin landmarks, which annually attract thousands of people, have all appeared in the top 15 of the world’s most popular travel website.
Right at the top of Trip Advisor’s most highly rated Skye visitor attractions is the majestic Quiraing, which has more than 400 glowing reviews, all of which are either “excellent” or “very good”, with only two people dubbing it “average”.
The latest review, posted earlier this month came from a delighted Californian visitor, who dubbed it as “one of the most beautiful, majestic and breathtaking” places they had ever been to and awarded it five stars. “We have been here several times and its brilliance never ceases to amaze us,” she wrote. “A must if you’re on Skye.”
Another five-star review, from a fellow American visitor, stated: “Breathless views of mountains, valleys and bodies of water create the 2nd best day walk I’ve ever been on behind only New Zealand’s Tongariro Pass. We were fortunate to have relatively good weather for the hike too.”
Staffin’s appeal on Trip Advisor is not unexpected and 2015 could be even better as sites like the Lealt Waterfall and Staffin Beach/Bay are not even listed, yet. The ratings comes after a phenomenallybusy summer season in Staffin with a huge influx of visitors, which has increased year-on-year. More than 100,000 people walked the Quiraing which saw the limited car park overflowing most days.
Staffin’s smash-hit popularity is echoed elsewhere in the chart, with the hugely popular Old Man of Storr at number 7, the Trotternish Ridge is at 10 and the Kilt Rock comes in at 14.
Other visitor sites in Trotternish also feature heavily with the Faerie Glen at Uig at number 2. The Skye Museum of Island Life, Flora MacDonlad’s Grave and the Trotternish Art Gallery, all in Kilmuir, are also highly rated.
