Glowing newspaper review for Columba 1400’s food

A FOOD reviewer in a national newspaper has hailed the quality of food and the setting at a popular Staffin eatery

Columba 1400’s Cafe was the subject of a hugely positive 400 word review and pictures in The Press & Journal newspaper, which has a circulation of almost 60,000 copies.

The unnamed reviewer, who went to the cafe incognito, was staying in a Staffin cottage near the shore with her husband. She gave the cafe a glowing 12 stars out of the available 15 and singled out the lamb shank, Cullen skink soup and sea bass meals for particular praise. Indeed the lamb’s arrival at the table brought a ‘wow’ from their table, such was its presentation as it was smothered in rich gravy, she wrote.

The Quiraing mountain burger was described as interesting while the sweet dishes were ‘enticing’. The reviewer signed off saying it was a good feeling knowing that some of the money would better invested back into the project befitting young people and the community.

The surroundings were also described in enthusiastic terms: “Along with the beautiful big windows the room is flooded with natural light. a wood burner stands on one side, which must be lovely in the winter months.”

Columba 1400 manager Jackie Gillies said the review was a credit to the efforts of the talented staff, both in the kitchen and waiting at the tables.
