From pastry to pepperoni: Skye Pie eyes a pizza of the action…
STAFFIN’S Skye Pie Cafe embarks on a keenly anticipated winter venture tonight (4.11.16) – homemade takeaway pizzas.
The cafe at Glenview, which has been hugely popular since opening in 2015 as the island’s first dedicated pie eatery, closed for the season last month.
But it was a temporary closure as the couple running Skye Pie have been working hard to prepare for the opening of a special November opening which involves a switch in food offering.
The pies have temporarily made way with owners Simon Wallwork and Kirsty Faulds launching a brand new pizza menu every Friday and Saturday evening in November, starting tonight.
And the Skye Pie Pizzas are sure to be authentic tasting as Simon is drawing on the experience gleamed from his first chef’s job back in his native Australia, working for a family of Italians, the country which gave the world pizza.
Kirsty said the couple’s two young sons Frddie and Toby were eager to pounce on any unlikely left overs from the pie cafe pizzas.

“Simon’s first ever chef’s job was in an Italian restaurant back in Australia which is famous for its pizzas, plus it is the boys’ favourite food so there will never be a problem with wastage and left overs!,” she said.
“We wanted a winter project and it’s going to be November pizzas. We will also be open next month from the 12th of December for two weeks with Christmas pies and then if the pizzas go well we will do them in January and February as well.”
All pizzas are 12-inches, made with Simon’s freshly made bases and traditional Napolitana tomato sauce, plus fresh herbs. The “Culnacnoc Creeler” pizza with a base of prawns, chilli and spinach is certain to be a favourite with hungry locals and vistors to Staffin and Skye.
