Calum joins Staffin Community Trust board
A NEW director has joined Staffin Community Trust (SCT) to help progress its projects, ahead of an important year ahead.
Calum MacDonald, who was raised in Stenscholl, will now serve on the development trust’s board.
Having a committed board of directors with a range of skills and backgrounds is vital for the SCT because specific projects – like the affordable housing, health and business development – are fast approaching the delivery phase in 2019.
The SCT directors all have their own jobs and family commitments and like all development trusts across the West Highlands, their voluntary input into the organisation’s governance and decision-making is vital.
There are nine directors with more than 100 SCT members across the community who support the organisation’s ethos and objectives to improve services, create employment, boost the local economy and

New SCT director Calum MacDonald.

Calum was raised in Stenscholl and attended the old Staffin Primary School and Portree High School. He lived in London for some time and served as a police officer in the Metropolitan Police for eight years. He returned home to Staffin in 2009 and now lives in Digg where he runs self-catering accommodation. He also help his father on the family croft in Stenscholl and is a member of the Staffin Fire and Rescue Service.
Calum was keen to join SCT because he has a particular interest in the Staffin Slipway redevelopment, having been brought up a short distance away.
Meanwhile, Martin Farquhar from Ellishadder has stepped down as a director after two years’ service. Martin works overseas a lot at present and had struggled to find the time to contribute as much as he wanted. SCT chairman Sandy Ogilvie said Martin made an invaluable contribution to SCT’s projects, including the housingdevelopment and Storr, in that time and hoped he would be able to get involved again in the near future. He intends to continue supporting SCT ‘s work as much as possible.
